Trump: Crash 'could have been' a result of diversity hiring

A passenger plane collided in mid air with a helicopter near Washington DC as it approached Ronald Reagan National Airport on Wednesday night. US officials say 67 people were aboard and no survivors are expected.

In a press conference from the White House, President Donald Trump said "our hearts are shattered" and the US is "in mourning". The president then went on to attack diversity policies at the federal aviation agency.

A reporter asked Trump if he was saying the crash was somehow caused by and the result of diversity hiring, to which he replied "it could have been". When asked how he came to this conclusion, Trump said "because I have common sense, and unfortunately a lot of people don't".
