Man knocked unconscious and jaw broken in assault

A man has been treated in the hospital for facial injuries after he was knocked unconscious and had his jaw broken during an assault in Londonderry.

The incident happened near the John Street area of the city on Friday.

Police said that an altercation took place between two men when a third male intervened and knocked one of them unconscious before fleeing the scene.

Police said they attended the scene along with paramedics.

Police have appealed to anyone who was in the area between 17:00 and 19:00 GMT on Friday and witnessed the incident to come forward.
